Longstanding Radiation Oncology Practice Rebrands as Low Country Radiation, Reaffirming Its Commitment to Patient Care

June 6, 2024

Under the new leadership of the American Oncology Network, the clinic can continue to provide advanced radiation therapy services to its patients.

WAYCROSS, Ga., June 6, 2024 – Previously known as Memorial Satilla Radiation Oncology, a trusted provider of radiation oncology services in the community, the practice is excited to announce that it has rebranded to Low Country Radiation under the new leadership of the American Oncology Network (AON) (Nasdaq: AONC).

While the clinic boasts a new name, it maintains its commitment to providing the same high-quality patient care. Patients will continue to be treated by the same esteemed physician care team at the existing location on 1451 Church Street, and the clinic will remain a participant in patients’ insurance networks, ensuring no disruption to patient care.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the Low Country Radiation legacy,” said Todd Schonherz, AON’s chief executive officer. “Expanding our radiation oncology services allows us to further our mission of providing accessible and exceptional cancer care to patients in Waycross. By joining forces, Low Country Radiation will benefit from our network’s investments in cutting-edge technology, including the latest radiation oncology equipment and innovative treatment protocols. We also look forward to supporting the skilled physicians and staff in delivering even more precise and effective care to their patients.”

As a critical treatment option for many cancer diagnoses, radiation therapy plays a vital role in destroying or slowing the growth of cancer cells. It can shrink early-stage cancer, stop cancer from returning or treat symptoms associated with cancer metastases.

Low Country Radiation will continue to provide external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). As part of AON, the clinic gains access to expertise and support to deliver the latest advancements in radiation oncology.

“I am excited to see that this opportunity guarantees continued access to crucial radiation therapy services for patients in the Waycross community,” said Asit Jha, MD, Board-certified medical oncologist at Low Country Cancer Care. “This not only reduces travel burdens for patients but allows them to receive care in a familiar and comfortable environment, which is especially important for those who rely on a strong support system during this time. I am thrilled to learn that the clinic will remain a pillar of our local healthcare network.”

“Radiation therapy is a cornerstone of cancer treatment and is a powerful tool for controlling and often curing a wide range of cancers,” said Guy Messer, AON’s vice president of radiation and radiology services. “Ensuring accessibility to these lifesaving services is paramount. Through Low Country Radiation, we can strengthen the clinic’s ability to deliver radiation oncology care. We look forward to helping the physicians and staff provide patients with the best possible care for a positive outcome that is close to home.”

“For many cancer patients, radiation therapy is a vital opportunity to fight the disease,” said Stephen “Fred” Divers, MD, AON’s chief medical officer. “Accessible, high-quality treatment options are essential in this battle. We are thrilled to welcome Low Country Radiation to our network.”
